ARTIST STATEMENT
Painting for me is not about mastering a specific technique but instead giving myself permission to experiment and follow creative urges and see where they ultimately lead. It involves an effort to find the balance between guiding and controlling the painting and allowing room for something beyond thinking to emerge. My intention is to connect to the part of myself that has something it wishes to express and allow for that because I believe that there is information for me there. This is less about thinking and more about intuiting. By painting more experimentally the mistakes and imperfections that happen along the way very much become part of the painting. I have found that these mistakes and imperfections ultimately create the interest and depth of the piece which I think is very reflective of life itself.
I believe that we all have something within us that desires to be expressed and known. Painting is the avenue through which I strive to connect to this part of myself and allow it expression.
